[comp.unix.questions] data file location

Greetings,

I am in the process of developing a system of tools.  Within this system
are several data-like files(e.g. makefiles & awk files).  Where is the
most appropriate place to put these files(~mysystem/etc,
~mysystem/lib, somewhere else)??
