[comp.unix.questions] RTS sensing in C

root@pubit.sublink.ORG (Arrigo Benedetti) (08/21/90)

Is there any way of sensing the state of the RTS/CTS line of the serial interface in a C program ?
I know that I could probably read the 8250 status register, but I'm looking for
a solution which is hardware independent.
BTW is there any other modem control signal that I can detect from a C program
or shell script ? I know how to sense the DCD, but what about, for example, the DTR line?

I appreciate in advance any suggestions.

P.S. the application should be portable to several unix platforms, but will
run primarily in the SCO Unix/Xenix environment.
