Hi all- I have a few questions that I am hoping that someone can answer for me. Please be kind to me as I am a new unix user as well as a system administrator in training.. 8-) I have a SPARCserver 330 with 2 327MB internal disks and 1 external quic-150 tapedrive. I am going to add a 8mm tape and a 1GB disk drive. My questions are: 1- What steps do I follow to telling the system that these new devices are there. I have read manuals, and other books and am more confused than enlightened. 2- What is the best way to distribute the disk space. What partitions should go where.. Currently I have / /usr on sd6 /home on sd2 /usr and /home are full..!!!! and my users are getting ugly.. I am running 4.0.3 and I know that 4.1 is supposed to be larger. I have also been told that if you can you should allow partitions for /tmp /usr/spool & /local. Can someone please comment on rules or hints for spreading files among numerous disks. 3-If someone has a suggestion for how to arrange partitions on the old and new disks, can you also say a few words about the easiest way to move existing file systems to the new locations, and what to do with the old disks Is this clear as mud or what..? Please respond directly to me.. Thanks for your time ... Susanne Barbera-Ramsey .^.^. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory . o o . 7000 East Avenue L-630 | (415) 423-9530 .>>v<<.
