Try the "Nutshell Handbook" "Managing Projects with make" published by O'Reilly & Associates, Inc. 632 Petaluma Avenue Sebastopol, CA 95472. It goes from the simplest ideas to complex suffix rules, with many examples. I like these books and I have no connection with the firm. Dick Botting Computer Science Dept.
