[comp.unix.questions] PD getty - install help needed

I have tried to install two public domain getty
programs on an SCO UNIX 3.2.2 system.  Both
programs fail to read from the port.  I've
checked permissions and ownership.  What else
should I check? (The programs report read timeout
after a call occurs.)

I want the system to automatically set the port's
baud rate without the caller having to send a
BREAK.  SCO's getty does not do that, and I *don't*
have those wonderful, full featured 9600 baud modems
on all lines. (Though I wish I did.)  Thank you.
