[comp.unix.questions] Problem loading AT&T Unix 3.2.2 on NCR PC386sx

I have been trying to load AT&T Unix 3.2.2 on a NCR PC386sx
model 3304 with no luck. The install procedure terminates during
installation while on first of the 7 floppies. My guess is
that there is some incompatibility between the AT&T Unix
3.2.2 software and the particular hardware. Here are the
symptoms that I have noticed over various attempts:-

-- Filesystems cannot be created on the hard disk
-- This include errors in creating or labelling the
         filesystem

-- If install procedure does not terminate in the above
error, the procedure may terminate when partitions
are being created. This usually happens because the
/etc/partition file generated has random syntactic
       errors. eg:

di k0:
       heads 64......etc.

Random characters tend to be missing. This causes the
       partitioning to abort.

-- I have also failed a number of times when files are
being copied from the floppy to hard disk. The main
reason for this is the same as the above. The files
are being cpio'ed to the hard drive by the following
       type of command:

       find <dir> -print | cpio ....

The output of find piped into cpio has missing
characters which leads to abort because files with
       improper names cannot be found.

I would apprecaite all comments. The machine has a Conner
Peripheral CP-3104 hard drive, and TEAC FD-55GFR and TEAC
FD-235HF floppy drives. Please post your comments or give me a
call since I am not sure of my internet address. Thanks.
