I have a near-beginner question about using netgroups. I have 2 machines, "alpha" and "beta". I have a tape unit on alpha that needs to back up files from a disk on beta. The disk in question is NFS mounted. Each machine is listed int the /etc/hosts.equiv file of the other. I have been told that I can use the /etc/netgroup file to set up a file that would allow what I want, which is to have root on machine alpha be able to be in a group such that it can access files on the disk on beta. I have read the manual, and was unenlightened. A local expert has tried to help, but no luck so far. A brief example would be wonderful. What do I need to put in the /etc/group and /etc/netgroup files on the 2 machines to let user root on machine alpha access files on machine beta with access -rwxrwxr-- and group ownership netgroup1? Thank you very much for your help. -- Rolf Wilson Illinois State Geological Survey rolf@sparc1.isgs.uiuc.edu
