[comp.unix.questions] Help: Forwarding mail but keeping a copy locally.

wlw2286@isc.rit.edu (W.L. Lance) (01/29/91)

The title basically says it all, when I go away on break I like to
forward my mail to a friends address at his site, but I'd also like to
keep a copy back at my home system. I am using Ultrix 4.1, and Sun
4.0.3.

Thanks in advance,
Lance

Please learn how to use the 'Followup-To:' header. You aren't going
to get a lot of answers to your questions if you make people responses bounce.

In '.forward' in your home directory, you want:

\me,	myfriend@his.domain

where of course you make the obvious interpretations. The '\' preceding
your logon name prevents it from being recognized as you during '.forward'
processing (it doesn't really loop anyway), but the quoting is removed
later for finding your mailbox. Look at the man pages for 'vacation' for
examples of how this is done.
