I have been trying to setup sendmail on my Sony RISC workstation under 4.3BSD and have been having some troubles. I build a sendmail.cf file using the utility Sony provides called mailconf with a descriptor file containing the following (desc.dat) name: bukko lower_level_name: chipmunk name: chipmunk.bukko lower_level_name: none newstaka: local chipmunk.bukko bukko which generated a (rather large) sendmail.cf file, which I then attempted to use by installing it in /usr/lib/sendmail.cf and restarting the sendmail deamon. When I attempted to send mail however I am faced with the following message From paul Fri Feb 1 19:44:29 1991 Return-Path: <Mailer-Daemon> Received: by chipmunk.domain (4.0/SMI-4.0) id AB01670; Fri, 1 Feb 91 19:44:26 JST Date: Fri, 1 Feb 91 19:44:26 JST From: Mailer-Daemon (Mail Delivery Subsystem) Subject: Returned mail: Host unknown Message-Id: <9102011044.AB01670@chipmunk.domain> To: paul Status: R ----- Transcript of session follows ----- 421 Host mailhost not found for mailer ether. 550 paul@bk.tsukuba.ac.jp... Any ideas what is going on (for those that know about Sony's). I also attempted to build a freeze file by using /usr/lib/sendmail -bz as root with the sendmail process terminated to build the sendmail.fc file, but the file remained zero length after the command -- any ideas as to what might be causing this? -- Dr. Paul Fons University of Tsukuba Institute of Applied Physics Tsukuba-shi, Ibaraki-ken JAPAN 305 paul@bk.tsukuba.ac.jp fax: (0)298-53-5205
