I have a colleague who would very much like to get his hands on the algorithm used by UNIX to encrypt passwords. He needs t know precisely how the "salt" is chosen and so on. Could anyone direct me to relevant articles on that subject? If C code is available somewhere which isn't covered by AT&T's license, I would to know that as well. Please answer by e-mail. Thanks!
