[comp.unix.questions] information for unix system management

willemdj@thor.pttrnl.nl (Willem de Jong) (03/14/91)

Hello!

I am developing a tool to support Unix system administrators. At this
moment I am trying to find out what data is needed to manage a Unix system.
I reckon this data will consist of two parts:

- Data that describes the managed system as it should be.
This data might be used to check the actual status of the system.
I am thinking of things like: which processes should run, and when; which
files should be present, and in which directories, etc.

- Historical data, to be able to do some predictions on the future (by
  extrapolation).

Does anyone know which ATTRIBUTES might be of interest, or where I could
find a DESIGN for a DATABASE to hold this information?
