I am asking this for a friend of mine who does not have network access. I will forward all replies to him. ----- We have many TCP applications that currently use either sockets or TLI. We have machines running SUNOS, AIX, SYSTEM V, HP/UX, DG/UX, UMIPS, 386/ix SCO UNIX and Xenix, VMS, and OS/2. For future applications we are looking into using RPC if possible. My questions are : 1. What kind of applications/environments are best suited for RPC. 2. What are the limitations/problems of RPC. 3. Why would someone use RPC rather than TLI or sockets. I am interested in the advantages/disadvantages of it. 4. What are the performance related questions regarding RPC. 5. How different are the various RPC mechanisms. (SUN, HP, NetWise, Xerox and OSF). Can I mix RPC from different vendors in my application. 6. What are the problems of using RPC on different platforms. Please inform me about it. If there are sufficient replies I will post a summary of it on the net. Thanks a lot... ---- Sanju Kapoor
