I've been using the Sun floppy disk drive as according to the manual, and ive made a few floppies with tar. But now i want to know how to delete files from the tar without unpacking the tar totally and then repacking it. Im on a sparcstation 1+, and im using 1.44mb floppies. i use the device /dev/rfd0 (i think). thanks in advance.

In article <570@bria>, writes: |> If you want to use floppies in this fashion, why not use mkfs and mount |> the floppy? The filesystem overhead on a floppy is pretty high. You can get a lot more data on the disk using tar than you can if you need to allocate all the space necessary to store the structure of a filesystem. Incidentally, Mike, why is it that half of your messages don't have a From: line in the header? RFC 1036 says that a From: line is required, and it's annoying when my news reader can't show me who the message is from and when attribution lines (like the one above) can't figure out what name to put in because there's not From:. -- Jonathan Kamens USnail: MIT Project Athena 11 Ashford Terrace jik@Athena.MIT.EDU Allston, MA 02134 Office: 617-253-8085 Home: 617-782-0710
