[comp.unix.questions] Sure-fire BSD curses arrow key detection

Seems like this question gets asked pretty often, but I've never seen
a sufficient answer.

Anyone out there have a reliable, BSD-based, curses routine that accepts
characters from the keyboard and deciphers the arrow keys?

I've tried a number of implementations, yet can't seem to get one pinned
down that works right all of the time.
