I've been having trouble uncompressing the emacs 18.55 archives
from the uunet archives. 18.55.Z.00 uncompressed ok, but I'm left
with a 660k file that doesn't execute [doesn't chop itself up into
the smaller source files].

18.55.Z.01 and 02 came through uucp at the right size(256k), but
they won't uncompress. I've taken quite a bit of source from
the uunet archives and have never had any problems like this?

Any tips?

I am having the same problem. I thought it was a bad download. And
am downloading them again.

Thanks

Some body mailed me the fix -->

put all the 18.55.Z.?? files in a directory, the put in this line:

cat 18.55.Z.* | uncompress | tar xvf -

(he had ... | tar xvof - , but my tar doesn't use o )

works fine.

Whenever files are in the form of *.Z.NN where NN is sequential numbering,
the files are a split compessed file. To uncomress them you must do
something like:

	cat *.Z.[0-9][0-9] | uncompress | (de-archiver tar/cpio/whatever)

I just downloaded emacs from simtel. It does not have a machine header
file for my box and I am having problems getting the make to go. If
anyone has compiled this monster on a sperry 5000/80 sys 5.3 I would
appreciate some advice, machine header file, etc.

Thanks Norm Frech < frech@mwraaa.army.mil >

Is it public domain?? WHere can I find it??

Send email. Thanks.

I have been stumbling through EMACS minus any documentation. Can anyone
post, or EMAIL me a SHORT "cheat sheet" of the editor commands?

Thanks
