If I have a 3B2/300 that has no man pages, what are my options to go about getting them? Is there a freeware source, or is this a purchase only item? Thanx!!

John, I just got a 3B/1 and asked a very similar question in comp.sys.3b1, and got the answer that AT&T has some deal with McSomethingerother or Sybex, that they're the only ones to do the publishing of their manuals, and man pages are manuals, and that they also decided you have to have a development license to get them. And you have to buy the pages... Of course you can get free man source, don't know about pages though... I'd like to know if you do manage to get some. I am running Sys V r3.51, foundation and development...but no man pages. :-( -Brian -- XNS: bheess:es xc15 INet: heess@arisia.Xerox.com bheess.es_xc15@Xerox.com Home: bheess@mcws.fidonet.org ...!elroy!mcws!bheess --

Brian, Thanx for the info. That's sort of what I expected, but you never know till you ask. I guess that's also one of those deals where, 'if you have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it' B-{).

I don't know how relevant this is, but I once called AT&T about getting man pages in a machine-readable form for Sysv/386. The only way they were available would have been to buy a commercial document license, allowing the purchaser to publish the docs any way he saw fit (paying AT&T a royalty for each copy sold). The cost was a cool $10,000. Nobody on usenet wanted to do a group buy :-( -- Kenneth Herron kherron@ms.uky.edu University of Kentucky +1 606 257 2975 Department of Mathematics "So this won't be a total loss, can you make it so guys get to throw their mothers-in-law in?" It's probably also one of those things where you do ask, and you find out A) you don't want to afford it, and on the lighter side - B) somebody has done something where you can figure out a way to do the same thing, only better, or a way of producing the same effect (a way around it)..<G> Let me know if you find out about anything... I'm not too sure, but I would think that anything that runs on the 3B/2, may also run on the 3B/1. -Brian -- XNS: bheess:es xc15 INet: heess@arisia.Xerox.com .OR. bheess.es_xc15@Xerox.com Home: bheess@mcws.fidonet.org .OR. ...!elroy!mcws!bheess --
