[comp.unix.questions] question about "screen" program

acarlson@laurel.math.umass.edu (Adam Carlson) (06/04/91)

I recently installed Oliver Laumann's screen program on my Sun 3/80
running SunOS 4.1 and am having a problem with it.

I can use it no problem, but one of my users get's a permission denied
message when he tries to run it. At first he was having trouble
reading his .screen directory (i.e. he would get a permission denied)
most recently, he got the following error:

%screen
bind: Permission denied

This is while he was logged on to a diskless client with his home dir
NFS mounted from the server (if that is important).

Screen is set-uid and owned by root (the root of the server, that is).

Finally, is there any way screen could crash my machine. My system
has crashed twice recently, and both times were soon after this user
attempted to run screen.

Any help would be appreciated.
