[comp.sources.d] status of unmoderated sources mailing list

webber@brandx.rutgers.edu.UUCP (06/10/87)

Hi. As mentioned earlier, I am putting together a mailing list for unmoderated
sources and discussions thereof. Currently about 50 people have indicated an
interest. Most of these people have not had their requests acknowledged yet.
My infinite apologies for this and infinite thanks for the early show of
support.

Also, currently a number of backbone sites have requested that no mail on the
list go through them. Basically this impacts Europe, Austrailia, and Canada.
In the United States, there is enough density of sites so that I think I can
thread paths around the problem sites.

I will soon be sending out software that will allow people to post on this
list even when my site is down. After all, I could hardly present to people
who want genuine unmoderated sources a centralized distribution point. The
comp.sources.misc group has shown what happens to that idea. Leave something
in someone's hands long enough, and they start to play with it.

Although one would assume 50 was enough votes to get something undone that
no one remembers being voted on to get done, one never knows. As always,
please send votes in favour of unmoderated sources to:
             rutgers!rutgers.aramis.edu!webber
(we are due to go onto pure domainized mail addresses soon, sigh).
