[comp.sources.d] comp.sources.misc Administrivia: NEW GUIDELINES

allbery@ncoast.UUCP (Brandon S. Allbery) (06/11/87)

My last Administrivia produced a number of replies; I also sent a message
to the moderators' list detailing the realities, and I have come up with a
plan of attack. (My ``charter'' just went out the window, in other words.)

NEW GUIDELINES FOR comp.sources.misc
====================================

(1) My Administrivia now falls under the same rules as every other non-source
posting; I will post to comp.sources.d from now on.

(2) As stated in my last posting, there is no more testing. My intent is to
get sources out the door as soon as possible.

(3) On forwarding stuff to comp.sources.{misc,games,mac,amiga,etc.}: On the
one hand: someone who is able to test this stuff ought to do so. Since
I am not doing so, they should be sent to someone who does.

On the other hand, if it's sent to comp.sources.misc it's with the
understanding that it goes out ASAP. This is especially important now,
since comp.sources.unix is on indefinite hiatus (again!). Therefore,
I will no longer redirect source postings elsewhere. This is, however,
contingent on whether that works or not.

(4) On MS-DOS binaries: I have received far more responses on binary
postings than ever made it into news.groups where they belong; at the
risk of getting someone in The Backbone Cabal upset, I am creating a
moderated comp.binaries.ibm.pc, which I will moderate for the time
being. (Applications for moderatorhood now being accepted; send a
    resume. ;-})

(5) As of today (6/10/87), turnaround is 1 day from the time I receive a
submission. Since the local News Cabal (not to be confused with The
Backbone Cabal) seems to have its collective head on reasonably straight
for the time being, this means an absolute turnaround time from the
original submission to a backbone to return to a backbone is no more
than two days, and usually only one, depending on polling schedules
at ncoast, hal, cwruecmp, and cbosgd (generally once an hour) and my
    schedule.

These new guidelines are effective starting 6/10 at 10:30PM EST.

BTW, the "From:" line bug has been solved; I am now rewriting From: lines
into Internet format, and inews seems to be satisfied. Replies will go to
the right places from now on.
