[comp.sources.d] munged hack uucode?

knutson6@auscso.UUCP (John Knutson) (07/01/87)

Recently hack 3.6 was posted to comp.binaries.ibm.pc (I guess, it ended up in
junk here). I used uudecode on our machine and then d/led the arc file.
When I tried to unARC the file, and the machine locked up. I am using Pkxarc
version 3.4 and SEA ARC v5.1. It did the same thing with each program.
Someone else complained about a munged part 2, but I looked at my copy, and
it appeared fine. Is anyone else having this problem?

No problems here yet. I used 4.2bsd and PKXARC.

Thanks to Keith Petersen (KPETERSEN@SIMTEL20.ARPA) I now have CRC programs
for UNIX and MS-DOS. The UNIX one will go to comp.sources.misc; the MS-DOS
uuencode to comp.binaries.ibm.pc; and I will write a shar program which will
contain the UNIX crc'er and will automatically concatenate and crc-check the
uuencode. (Something like the result of "makekits".) This will catch any
errors in transmission; and you can save the output, then run the DOS CRC
checker after kermit/xmodem/whatever'ing the program to your system and
make sure they're the same. (Given the CRC maker source, you can uudecode
the program on the UNIX side and still be able to CRC it.)

On the other hand, if nobody minds incompatibility, I can probably hack
up a shar that contains a decoder with CRC checking that can do it all,
thus allowing the whole thing to be checked with minumum shar space taken.
