Hi. I've been getting a lot of mail on various topics concerning sources that have come from here, and so I thought I'd make a few brief comments... 1. untamo The person who wrote this isn't here any more; ("It's not my fault"--Han Solo) so please send any and all correspondence about untamo to the person currently maintaining it, Craig Norborg, at doc@j.cc.purdue.edu. I understand that Craig is working on yet another version of untamo which will fix many of the bugs that various Usenet users have uncovered...so if you have some comments, questions, or bug reports for him, please send them along. 2. crc package (qplot/plot3d) The person who wrote this package never was here (he was across campus), but I'm trying to handle some of the problems with it. I have two changes pending that will be sent to Rich Salz and hopefully published in the newsgroup comp.sources.unix soon. Those changes are (1) the missing device drivers, which some person (cough, cough) left out of the initial distribution and (2) a set of changes to load the font that qplot and plot3d use into the C source, so that it's not necessary to open up the font file every time something needs to be printed. 3. ease Yes, you guessed it. The person who wrote this isn't around either. Well, work on ease is slowly proceeding. We have some partially-finished config files, but I'm unsure when these will be done. The best person to contact about ease is probably Kevin Braunsdorf, ksb@j.cc.purdue.edu. 4. various other sources Here's a quick list of other sources that have originated here matched with a list of who to congratulate or blame: backup -- rsk@j.cc.purdue.edu (Rich Kulawiec) stat -- rsk@j.cc.purdue.edu (Rich Kulawiec) junkmail-- rsk@j.cc.purdue.edu (Rich Kulawiec); I didn't write the original, but have done most of the modifications. maketd -- doc@j.cc.purdue.edu (Craig Norborg) or aat@j.cc.purdue.edu (Jeff Smith) yyreduce-- ksb@j.cc.purdue.edu (Kevin Braunsdorf) calls -- ksb@j.cc.purdue.edu (Kevin Braunsdorf) 5. Access to sources from around here If you have access to the Internet, ftp to j.cc.purdue.edu, cd to "pub", and look at the README, which is usually up to date. Our various sources, along with news 2.11, rn 4.3, nntp 1.3 and some other goodies, are all stashed in there. If you're looking for the comp.sources.unix archive, don't cd to "pub"; cd to "news/comp/sources/unix" and look at *that* README. If you only have UUCP access, I'm afraid you're going to hate us, because we don't have a direct UUCP connection, and are loathe to incur the wrath of our Usenet neighbors by sending megabytes through their hosts. Small chunks of sources (like diffs and so on) can be sent, though. 6. In closing Please be reasonable when sending correspondence about sources that have come out of here; we have projects and schedules and deadlines to deal with, and sometimes those considerations take precedence over free support activities for folks on Usenet. We really do try to produce quality products, though, and constructive comments are always welcome. Cheers, Rich Kulawiec, rsk@j.cc.purdue.edu, j.cc.purdue.edu!rsk PUCC News Administrator
