Larry Wall has put a lot of work into patch.  It is really a great tool
for just this kind of fix.  I know that some sites may not have patch,
but gee whiz guys, if they don't have it, they should.  I believe that
Larry has a set up to automatically handle request for source.


At least if you are going to post ed scripts then post diffs as well.

I agree.  'ed' scripts are highly unportable.  I do have patch on my
MS-DOS machine (which nethack is supposed to run on), but I don't
have ed.  If size is such an important consideration that nethack
is posted as a shar file (not compressed tar for instance), but the
patches are posted as ed scripts, someone has their values slightly
skewed.
