I have been working on the PD tar program, merging in various ports
and fixes from some dedicated volunteers. The new version supports
Minix (as best it can), MSDOS, remote access to tape drives, full
read/write of compressed tar files, and many other bug fixes and
improvements.
I have sent it out for testing to a bunch of people who have
corresponded with me about tar in the past. I probably don't need
further testers at this point, and if you just want a copy of it,
please wait for the upcoming release. What I do need are your changes
that have been running awhile on your site but which you forgot to send
me. If you send them in now, there's a good chance there will be time
to merge your fixes into the master source before it is reposted to
comp.sources.unix in a few weeks (+or-).
Send *context* diffs, or full sources, to me...and thanks.
