[comp.sources.d] Wonderful sources - Cryptic names

zentrale@rmi.UUCP (11/03/87)

[This was posted to comp.sources.misc; I place it here because it is a
valid complaint.

Note that my "charter" as moderator requires me to get sources out as fast
as possible; in particular, this does NOT include writing summaries. It
is up to the author of a submission to doocument it adequately. ++bsa]

Many interesting and valuable sources have been published here.
The only thing I have to "complain" abt is:

You have to guess what the author meant when giving the source
such a name. If you are looking at those articles it would be
a good idea to find a short abstract BEFORE any shell scripts
(snip---snip---snip) starts...

It is somtimes not very easy to determine the use of a 13 part
distribution without reading all 14 packages first, just to see:
it's nothing for me.

So: why not publish a -short- abstract first, giving purpose,
target system(s) etc.?
