[comp.sources.d] SBBS summary

robertd@ncoast.UUCP (Rob DeMarco) (11/05/87)

=======================================
 o Due to the recent descussion and
   confusion about SBBS, let me
   summarize what it is, how to Beta
   Test, and when it will be available
   to the general public.
=======================================

    SBBS is a Bulletin Board System. As
most of us know,a Bulletin Board System
(or simply BBS) is a system that allows
many people to communicate with each
other by means of "message bases." This
is simply an area where people compose
and read messages given to each other.

    This is what SBBS is. SBBS is a BBS
that has its own special features and
commands.

    SBBS, as any BBS,has its advantages
and disadvantages.Its advantages are in
what I believe are the most important
qualities in a BBS system. If you think
the way I do, then this BBS is probibly
for you.

    Here I stress good user interface.
Less cryptic commands and error mes-
sages.An editor that is easy to use but
has  sufficient  features  including  a
rot13 option and a spell checker.

    Finally, SBBS is portable. It is
almost all shell scripts that uses
standard (/bin /usr/bin) UNIX commands.
=======================================
    SBBS WILL be available to the public at the beginning of 1988. REGUARDLESS
of of how many UNIX sites Beta Tested SBBS. Count on it to be released to the
net at this time. From now till November 15th, I will be accepting mail
requests to Beta Test SBBS. The Beta Test sites will Beta Test 'till the end
of the year. Then it will be available to the public. To request to be a Beta
Test site, fill out my contract sent over the net a weak ago. (I apologize
for not including it here but I was forced to delete it from my computer.)
I assumed anyone truely interested got a hold of that contract. I have two
sites that have agreed to Beta Test. That is enough for my standards. So if
you missed it, I'm sorry. You'll just have to wait untill January.

----------
*NOTE: It has allready been tested on a System III and works fine. No known
bugs exist. I am awaiting mail from the two sites that requested it.
