Almost each day one finds requests in comp.sources/.sys/.unix for certain software, e.g., Microemacs, arc/zoo, uu{en/de}code, etc. The requests are reasonable, but repetitive. A suggestion to reduce net & email bandwidth. Each *week* post in comp.sources.d: (1) a list of the sources believed (by comp.sources moderator?) to be the most frequently wanted, with a source for the source (needed because the current Microemacs and various other sources are not found on some comp.sources archive sites). (2) a statement that one should read the less frequently posted v*.info/.list files, ie RTFM. Even if repetitive postings are not much reduced, one could not answer them and retain a clear conscience. John Rupley uucp: ..{ihnp4 | hao!noao}!arizona!rupley telex: 9103508679(JARJAR) Dept. As quoted from <2637@megaron.arizona.edu> by rupley@arizona.edu (John Rupley): +--------------- | Almost each day one finds requests in comp.sources/.sys/.unix | for certain software, e.g., Microemacs, arc/zoo, uu{en/de}code, etc. +--------------- The problem with MicroEmacs was that it was promised to be posted... then Rich Salz (comp.sources.unix moderator) declared a moratorium on editor postings. This has apparently been interpreted as a moratorium on editors in comp.sources.misc as well. People, I'm here to get sources out. I'm NOT supposed to block sources; as a result, I am perfectly willing to accept the MicroEmacs sources (heck, I've been waiting for them!). (Yes, I made a comment, intended as a joke, about "maybe I should stop accepting editors too" when I posted VI for VMS. It *was* a joke; I've no business rejecting source postings, my sole job is to get rid of non-source.) So where is MicroEmacs, already??! ;-) -- Brandon S. Er, could we have a weekly/monthly message to look in the FM instead? And an explanation of where the FM is...
