-- UUCP archive information
-- Last Update: Tue Feb 9 21:58:31 EST 1988

An archive of various public domain software is available for anonymous UUCP
from killer. This file contains information on how to retrieve these programs.

-- UUCP access to killer

For 1200 baud UUCP access, call +1 214 827 2919; for 2400 baud, +1 214 821
3795. Use the login "uupdsrc" with no password. At this time we place no
access restrictions on the use of this service, but please try to be
reasonable.

-- Up-to-date information

At any time, this file is available as /bbsys4/README. It is suggested that
you get a copy before starting any serious transferring; the information
contained herein might well change by the time you read it.

-- Miscellany

Almost all files are compressed using 16 bits. If you are running on a small
machine without 16-bit compress, then try very, very hard to get 16-bit
compress. If you're desperate, contact me via mail and something can be
arranged. (send mail to {cbosgd,codas,ihnp4,mit-eddie}!killer!billw)

-- Old Empire version 1.2

Empire is a multi-player game of territorial expansion and conquest. Iit
is not real-time; rather, players receive a certain daily allotment
of moves. (You HAVEN'T heard of empire?)

-- Elm version 1.7 beta

Elm is short for "ELectronic Mailer," a powerful screen-based mail program.
Additional components of the elm system include an auto-reply daemon, to
automatically respond to your mail while you are on vacation, and a filter
program to perform simple mail preprocessing with the help of sendmail.

/bbsys4/misc/elm.b1.7.tar.Z, 382005 bytes

-- The Mail User's Shell, version 6.0b

mush, or "The Mail User's Shell," is another mail program. This one can
operate in one of three different modes: a shell mode, similar to Berkeley's
Mail and AT&T's mailx but with aliases and history like Berkeley's C
Shell; a curses mode, reminiscent of Elm; and, on Sun computers, a
"mushtool" mode which takes advantage of all those mouse/icon/window
thingies.

/bbsys4/misc/mush6.0b.tar.Z, 245163 bytes

-- dist, software distribution tools

dist is a set of tools written by Larry Wall used for distribution of
software, primarily via USENET. It includes metaconfig, a program that
generates Configure shell scripts; makedist, which creates distribution
kits, and a program that generates patches by gathering diffs on all
files in a distribution.

-- GNU awk, beta-test

gawk is the Free Software Foundation's replacement for the standard UNIX
tool awk. This is the beta test distribution, "probably around version
1.01 or so." It is known to work on BSD UNIX; its System V functionality
is dubious.

/bbsys4/gnu/awk.tar.Z, 100061 bytes

-- Sendmail, version 5.17

This is the ubiquitous sendmail. It is at its best on Internet machines,
but does have uses on machines with simpler mail requirements.

/bbsys4/misc/sndml.mx.tar.Z, 475187 bytes

-- Generic sendmail configuration

This package -- hopefully -- simplifies configuring sendmail.

/bbsys4/misc/sndml.cf.tar.Z, 126839 bytes

-- GNU Bison

GNU Bison is the Free Software Foundation's replacement for yacc, and
includes one function that is not available in yacc.

/bbsys4/gnu/bison.tar.Z, 76059 bytes

-- GNU Emacs version 18.49

GNU Emacs is a full-featured text editor, fully extensible via a built-in
version of the lisp programming language. It's huge, too.

GNU Emacs has been split into 36 files.

jfh@killer.UUCP (The Beach Bum) (02/11/88)

I have started archiving the comp.sources.misc and comp.sources.unix
sources I have ported to SCO Xenix. More information is available by
UUCP to rpp386 or E-mail to me here at jfh@killer.

Add this to your L.sys file:

rpp386 Any ACU 2400 12142506272 in:--in:--in: nuucp word: porkypig

The archives are on floppies right now, send a mail request and I'll
make what I can available. More coming every day. The files are in
/usr/spool/archive and the directory is in /usr/spool/uucppublic/archive,
snatch that and go from there. Once the archive group Bill is working
on is set up, I'll make the list available on whatever basis is finally
agreed upon. But please note, THIS IS ONLY GOING TO BE SOURCES I CAN
MAKE RUN ON XENIX! I don't want to become a general archive site.

Also, if I don't have something (yet) under Xenix and you do, I'd
appreciate the contribution.
