Announcing: Leif Leif is a retargetable language oriented editor based on incremental compiler technology. Leif executes as a minor mode in GNU Emacs that allows normal editing with additional commands that access the syntax of the program being edited. Leif can be operated transparently with no change in normal editing styles. Normal editing styles also may be combined with commands to locate syntax errors and display the phrase structure of a program. (See the Software Engineering Digest for a more complete description of Leif.) Leif is implemented as a small change to 18.50 GNU Emacs plus two lisp extension libraries, an incremental parsing program, and utilities to create language description files. These program are available via anonymous FTP from a.cs.uiuc.edu in the subdirectory pub/Leif. A copy of GNU Emacs with the modifications installed is also available in that directory. Consult the file README.DIST for more information on files to retrieve. Documentation is also available in the compressed tar file, leif-docu.tar.Z . (If you are unable to access the files via ftp, please contact us.) Please direct Leif related queries to ihnp4!uiucdcs!leif or leif@a.cs.uiuc.edu William Smith, Dan LaLiberte, Roy Campbell
