[comp.sources.d] new version of cubes via mail

gmp@rayssd.ray.com (Gregory M. Paris) (07/16/88)

There have been quite a few changes to cubes (comp.sources.games v04i034)
since patch1 was posted (comp.sources.games v04i041) on June 16th. I've
received little feedback from the net regarding the game, so I've tentatively
decided not to waste the net's resources with further postings of the game.

If you'd like to receive future versions of cubes, send me email and I'll put
you on the list. (If you want the current version, get it from one of the
comp.sources.games archive sites.) Please let me know if you have the current
version now, and if you've played it. I expect that I'll be ready to ship
version 3.1 around the first week of August.

Here's a summary of most of the changes made from cubes version 2.1.

X bugfixes
X improvements to some existing computer players (the really bad ones)
X added some new computer players (some good, some maybe not so good)
X improved computer player selection routine (equalizes games played)
X more use of graphics characters for fancier display
X better timeout behavior (bugfix and enhancement)
X more responsive screen redraw command (works even when not your turn)
X watch-only mode (for the wallflower crowd)
X display of number of watchers during game
X display of turn point averages during game
X allows checking players' rankings during game
X cuberank expanded for better display and analysis
X cubestat program added for checking server status
X more thorough hiding of command line arguments
