[comp.sources.d] v16i014: Public lineprinter spooler package, Part01/16

Here we go again. It seems that this one has almost every
combination. Couldn't we keep it a little simpler?

|Archive-name: plp/part01

First, it is public domain:

| PLP is a public domain version of the Berkeley LPD software.
|The functional resemblance between PLP and the Berkeley Line
|Printer Spooler (LPD) is intentional; the source code was written
|without reference to the original Berkeley LPD software, except
|for some very small sections concerned with networking and the
|large characters used for banner printing. The PLP software has

But most of the pieces are copyrighted in various ways:

|X# * U. Minnesota LPD Software * Copyright 1987, 1988, Patrick Powell

|X#	"$Header$ PLP Copyright 1988 Patrick Powell";

Here we have both on one line:

|X# Public Domain LPD Copyright 1988 Patrick Powell

I'm not sure what this one is supposed to mean. The 4BSD
licensing areement (recent changes aside) does not allow distribution
to sites without a license, so this shouldn't be here at all:

|X/*
|X * Updated LPR software;
|X * Original Version (Copyright) 1983 Regents of the Univeristy of California
|X * This is a derivative work,
|X * and the original copyright is still valid. Covered by the
|X * 4BSD Licensing Agreement; this is NOT public domain software.
|X * Mon Nov 23 09:23:23 CST 1987 Patrick Powell, U. Minnesota
|X */

(from in part 2)

So it isn't public domain, but you need only retain the copyrights:

|XFor complex legal reasons,
|PLP is NOT public domain software,
|but may be copied and/or modified as long as the original copyright
|notification is retained.

(from in part 3)

Now you can't charge for it (three copies of this):

|Copyright 1988 (C) Patrick Powell
|X
|Patrick Powell,
|Dept. of Computer Science,
|University of Minnesota,
|Minneapolis, Minnesota.
|Wed Apr 13 14:53:36 CDT 1988
|X
|The PLP software is available for use, and may be copied and distributed.
|Sale of the software without the explicit permission of the author
|is forbidden.
...
(three copies of GNU-like license deleted)
