I too, as your coordinator do not understand the delay in the Elm 2.1 posting appearing in comp.sources.unix. I was told it would appear the week after Thanksgiving (Last short week of November, start of December). It didn't and a large multipart posting is in progress. Thus I will post it in comp.mail.elm. I know most people don't archive comp.mail.elm, so this warning is going to comp.sources.d. Its in 22 parts and I am posting it as of Patchlevel 1. Thats the good news, now the bad news: 1. Elm 2.1 is a closed book. We do not plan to issue patches to it due to the long delay in its appearance. Those who wish to post patches to its problems to the news group comp.mail.elm, feel free, but limit those only to 2.1 bug fixes. One major inconvience for Sun systems is that CRMOD in curses.c needs to be taken out. There are other problems. 2. Elm 2.2d is approaching its cutoff date for changes (12/31/88) and will start testing at the beta sites shortly there after. There has been a lot of work done to make Elm much more portable and to fix a lot of the bugs. Also several new features have been introduced. The configuration system for installation has been entirely rewritten using Dist V2.0 from Larry Wall. Due to the large number of changes, including changes in the names for files, this will be a complete re- release and not a patch set. Elm 2.2 release is expected for the end of March, 1989. 3. An Elm 2.3 is planned, so we have not locked out any of your favorite ideas, feel free to still send them to me. -- ===================================================================== Sydney S.
