[comp.sources.d] Gemstones and minerals DATA wanted.

henkbo@philce.UUCP (Henk Boetzkes) (01/20/89)

Is there someone who has DATA for determination of Gemstones and minerals, or
do I have to type it all over from "The Encyclopedia of Minerals and Gemstones".

Yes I'm makeing an database for it, just for fun.
Only to make it simple for me to determine any rock.

First -- a rock is composed of a collection of minerals.
I suspect you want data on minerals. Since there are some
thousands the data file is large. But there are some good
tables in most mineralogy text books. When
I get my books unpacked (just moved) I will be able to give
some good references. If you are interested send me mail.

That still doesn't make it simple. To understand what
I am saying check a set of Dana's out in a good library. Then
look at a set of DH&W for the rock forming minerals (silicates).
This should fill nearly two feet of shelf. The third volume of
Dana's is 3/4 inches thick and only covers quartz (SiO2).
