[comp.sources.d] RPL fails miserably in compile

sean@ms.uky.edu (Sean Casey) (03/13/90)

When I first saw RPL, I thought "We have a working gcc, maybe I can
finally have me a good Reverse Polish Notation calculator."

I'll probably never know. RPL is one of the worst abuses of portability
I have ever seen. There are pointer mismatches *everywhere*, errno is
assumed to be defined by errno.h, and assumptions are made all over the
place as to the availability of include files and what path constants
are defined.

I gave up after 20 minutes of working on it. "rm -rf rpl".

Authos, *please* beta test your stuff before announcing "It will work."
and posting it to a zillion sites. I'll bet that 95% of the sites that
get RPL won't use it because it is so unportable.
