Having been away from the Net for almost a year, I would like to find out what the status of Comp.Sources.Unix is. Who is the moderator? What is the average frequency of postings to the group? In the month or so that I have had news running here, there has been NOTHING in C.S.U. -- is that normal? Thanks for any replies! -- Wolf N. I have not yet seen stuff which was submitted in November of 1989, so don't be impatient. Another batch will go out after the next renaming. Well, after some renaming. | Thanks for any replies! Perhaps Rich would like to explain, become active, or look for a new moderator. This group has been a real pain, in that people keep sending mail saying "please turn on my feed for c.s.u, I'm STILL not getting it." I'm amazed at the non-reaction to this situation up to now, but I assume that he's busy doing all the other stuff he does for the net, and I guess most people are willing to cut him some more slack. -- bill davidsen (davidsen@crdos1.crd.GE.COM -or- uunet!crdgw1!crdos1!davidsen) VMS is a text-only adventure game. This group has been a real pain, in that people keep sending mail saying "please turn on my feed for c.s.u, I'm STILL not getting it." If you want to get your stuff posted promptly there are plenty of ways. comp.sources.misc comes to mind. so also alt.sources. there are a number of sites in the world what that are happy to keep other people's code around for anonymous FTP or mail server access; find those places by looking in comp.archives. --Ed

Rich posts dozens of articles several times a year, and nothing goes obsolete while you wait. The quality of software posted there is worth any delay: I know that what appears in comp.sources.unix is software that I will archive, compile, and probably find a chance to use. > Perhaps Rich would like to explain, become active, or look for a new > moderator. I don't think any good moderator should rush through program postings. (My packages definitely improve while they're in the queue. [grin]) > This group has been a real pain, in that people keep sending > mail saying "please turn on my feed for c.s.u, I'm STILL not getting > it." Is that all you're peeved about? There are perhaps one or two such messages a month, with maybe one or two me-toos. ---Dan

Having been absent for a while, I am a little like a newcomer to the net: I don't really know what Rich is doing for the net, and thus am not sure why I should cut him some slack. What is he doing? Is there anyone else WILLING and ABLE to take over for him? 'coz unless there is, there's no use blaming Rich for doing a poor job -- at least he is doing something. If our mail situation were not so crazy here in Europe (we pay through the nose both to receive and send mail) I'd be willing to get involved, but my boss would not appreciate our e-mail bill going up by a few 100%! -- Wolf N.
