What's happened to comp.sources.misc? Is it just that no-one's posted to it or has the moderator disappeared or what? He said that his work had gotten to the point that he could no longer spare the time. I remember when he and I used to share Sunday night conferences on Delphi, when he had plenty of time to be on-line, and apparently it is still the same job, so I hope he is making plenty of money at it. I asked if I could step in, and while his response was guardedly positive, I did not get a second reponse. The one really important factor is that the moderator should have Internet access. Brandon dialed into Case Western for comp.sources.misc purposes, and he suggested that attempting to moderate it from a uucp site would be foolhardy given the number of archive sites that need to be maintained. He also said that it took about two hours a week of his time (probably after a few years of practice) even with the need to do such kindhearted deeds as send copies of files to people who, as he put it, thought that the moderator had nothing better to do with his time than look up files for them. -- Laird J. A while back (two-four weeks?) Brandon reported that he did not have time
to do the job. A request for replacement moderator went out at that time.
I guess the response was silence. If Brandon is still listening perhaps he
could write a short paragraph on the time required to do the job. (How many
hours per month...week...day?)
Until a replacement moderator is found I suggest patience or alt.sources.

Maybe it would be worth chasing it up (?) Otherwise the group is going to die a lingering death. The backlog alone must be horrendous. At the present time, I have 29 articles in the queue, *finally* some time to deal with them... and I can't find a working inews on uunet. (It looks like they've upgraded to a version of Dynix that uses the new SunOS/SVR4/whatever directlry layout, and nobody remembered to recompile news.) When this is fixed, I'm going to flush the postings. I have a sizeable list of applicants for moderator, I just need to pick one. I suspect I'm just going to review applications instead of my original ideas, because those ideas got filed by another 3-week absence from the Usenet in general and comp.sources.misc in particular.
