Ah, I begin to see something here. There is an assumption being made that the main level of the archive seperates the VOLUMES of the group from each other. I am working in a Cnews environment and use the explist to stash all the articles into an archive Spool as they expire. Then, as part of the daily administration for Cnews, I have the Spool directories processed to place the articles into a simple directory/part area. I don't particularly care about the volume number as that complicates finding a package. (My archives, btw, are not complete, but rather hold the recent few months of the groups and also keep the most recent versions of the "classic" tools (like patch or dmake) ) -- Gregory G.
