I'm looking to write a program on the Macintosh that will take an ASCII-only file and create an arc file that can be de-compressed by a PC on the other end of a modem. I have already tried the commercial Mac products that claim to be able to do this, and they can't. Does anyone here know where I might find a description of the arc file format so that I may do my own arc-compatible compression? I know little about PC's, so if there is a better (or more widely used) compression standard, I'd like to hear about it. I would need some reference on how to create the file... Thanks in advance... --clark ----------------------------------------------------------- Clark Anderson InterNet: anderson@apple.com Apple Computer, Inc AppleLink: C.ANDERSON BellNet: 408-974-4593 "I speak only for myself, much to my employers relief..." -----------------------------------------------------------

You might just take the UNIX version of arc (there are several, you need the one which works on sysV) and port it. -- Bill Davidsen (davidsen@crdos1.crd.ge.com, uunet!crdgw1!crdos1!davidsen) GE Corp R&D Center, Schenectady NY Moderator of comp.binaries.ibm.pc and 386users mailing list "This is your PC.
