[comp.sources.d] hyperdisk installed anyone?

kees@ee.ualberta.ca (Kees denHartigh) (03/20/91)

I have heard through the grapevine that hyperdisk is a good piece of
software however I am concerned with the warning generated by the
install program. It says WARNING! make sure you have a complete backup
of your system before installing!
or some such thing. Now I am all for backups but I do get a little
concerned when a message like this appears as it would require a great
investment in time to restore the entire system if something goes wrong.
Has anyone out thare installed hyperdisk? Did the install function
as expected? Has anyone had trouble with the installation and actually
had to restore thier hard drive? Inquiring minds want to know!

This has nothing to do with discussion of source programs posted to
Usenet. Hyperdisk is a shareware binary for IBM PC Windows systems.

Any time you install a utility whose job is to mess with the low level
functioning of your disk, it's common sense to do a backup first.

Followups directed to comp.sys.ibm.pc.misc although alt.nervous-nellies
was my first choice... :-)

That's absolutely right!

No problem with installing it. But be sure to stop all OTHER disk caching
software before running HyperDisk. The installation procedure does nothing but
copy the disk contents to HD and insert the apropriate lines to CONFIG.SYS.
You have do delete lines setting up other caching software by hand.
