I don't know how cheap/free you might be looking for, TANSTAAFL. But for something around $350/seat you can get schema from Omation Inc. It works *very* well as a schematic editor, producing netlists, Bill's of material, etc. There is an object editor for adding your own chips, and a library system. We have been using it at the University of Delaware, Department of EE for about 6 months, and have several 20-40 drawing projects in the works using it. It does not have a PC board layout program, or a simulator with it. We think it worth the money for the ~5 locking devices we purchased for it. Updates come frequently, bug reports (and we have only nits to report) are listened to and repairs effected. I have no connection with Omation, except as a satisfied customer. Similar products start at orders of magnitude greater price. It is not a set of simple things to write, and commercially, the market is not as big as for say a spreadsheet. You can reach Omation at 214/231-5167 1701 N. . I have the source for the pcb layout software posted a year or so ago. I am including it's README fiel below. If you want it email me (please put PCB EDITOR in the subject field). I will save requests for a week or so and then if there are a lot I will post the sources otherwise I will mail them to each requester. {watmath,ihnp4,uw-beaver}!ubc-vision!sfucmpt!sfulccr!chapman --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This directory contains the source files to PCB V1.24: PCB is a PC board editor with integrated routers. Prefer (but not a must), something that would work with a Bauch & Lomb ( AKA Huston Insturments) DMP- 29 eight pen plotter, or HP 7474(?). ------------- fold, spindle, mutilate at will ------(it's your CRT) ---- Gordon P. It worked for me, the wife, and 75% of the class. What a differance! Its GREAT! [ In this correspondance, I am representing myself and no others.
