Another good text on OS internals is: Kenah & Bates, "VAX/VMS Internals and Data Structures", Digital Press, 816pp, about $55. Provides an excellent description of the internal workings and data structures used by the VAX/VMS operating system. Also useful for those using 4.x bsd on VAXen as it must emulate many of the parts of VMS in order to run on the VAX hardware. NOTE that the current edition was written for version 3.x of VMS. It is not yet known when the VMS 4.x version of the book will be available. However, the text is still correct in all areas except for some minor changes in the basics of VMS, but contains nothing as far as the new security features, volume shadowing, and VAX 8xxx series machines is concerned. Even so, it is still a terrific book. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Howard Siegel - TRW Data Systems Laboratory - 213.535.1273 UUCP: ...{ucbvax,ihnp4,decvax}!trwrb!trwspf!fstop ARPA: fstop%trwspf.uucp@brand.usc.edu `This stuff is so warped even I understand it!' - Dr. Johnny Fever, WKRP =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
