[comp.sys.misc] Chargeback

Having just gone through a similar experience, I recommend that you call
your bank and explain what has occured. Tell them that you want to
'chargeback' the amount in dispute. (The bank knows what a chargeback is.)
Then follow up with a letter reiterating your conversation; a phone call
by itself is insufficent.

When the problem first occured, I didn't know about chargeback and the bank
did nothing. After I read the article in Consumers Report, I called and
demanded a chargeback. From then on, the bank took over and their attitude
changed from 'Gee, thats too bad!' to 'The amount has been removed. Don't
worry about it'. And yes, the merchant disputed it. And lost.

If you can, go to the library and get C.R. Feb 1987. Pages 119-122. The
article is very good about explaining how to use your plastic to protect
yourself.
