[comp.sys.misc] Looking for pointers to archiving system software.

terryl@tekcrl.UUCP (04/15/87)

I'm looking for an archiving system software package. Specifically, what
I'm looking for is an archiving system that:

     1) Runs under 4.2/4.3 BSD Unix.

     2) Will allow users to archive random files/directories to be retrieved
	at some later date.

     3) Network transparent would be nice, but not required.

     4) Interfacing to an optical disk would be a big plus.

Ideally, what I'd like to get is an archiving package that allows ordinary
users on machine X to archive files from their machine onto some sort of perma-
nent backup media on machine Y (like an optical disk), across some sort of net-
work (like ethernet). It must run under 4.2/4.3 BSD Unix, but I might be inter-
ested in a VMS-based system if that's all there is.

If there are any commercially available software packages to do this task?
If you have any information, please REPLY to me by mail, and I will summarize
the results.
