I am having problems installing a Seagate 238 30-meg hard disc drive with a Western Digital RLL Controller (27x) on a 6300. The following is a list of problems that occur: 1. It took a number of tries to successfully do the low level disc format once the machine finally booted. When unsuccessful, the "formatting" statement and disc light remained on for very long periods of time. It took less than 10 minutes when it finally worked. DOS FDISK, FORMAT and COPY also worked. 2. The 6300 does not boot properly when powered up. Using the floppy disc to load: a. The machine boots to the DOS "Compatibility" statement. b. The floppy disc drive prompt does not appear. c. The floppy disc light remains "on". Using the Hard Disc to load when powered up: a. The floppy disc is checked and "not ready" b. The Hard Disc light flashes c. The floppy disc light remains "on" d. The machine does not boot. The machine and hard disc DOES work OK if the reset button is pushed. Has anyone had this problem and know what's wrong? Western Digital can't explain it.I am operating with the following configuration: a. 6300 hard disc switch set to external b. 1.21 diagnostics c. DOS 3.1 (config.sys buffers=99) d. 1 floppy, 1 hard disc e. 20 pin controller connector J2 used (Other problems if J3 used. Please reply. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Allan Berlinsky moss!amb
