[comp.sys.misc] power again

I have a $90 Global surge protector feeding into a Tripp-Lite LS-600
Brownout and Surge protector. I ran the grounding cable to a cold water
pipe. Installed this on 9 Dec, not because of any problems, but because
furnace coming on dims the lites. The global gizmo is in the system for
its relay that keeps power off if it fails once.

During two hours on Dec. 11 my coowner was working and noticed three or
four distinct flashes of the incandescant lamp plugged into the
twice-protected outlet. Computer seemed OK (but it did crash for the
first time in its life on the 10th). I talked to Tripp-Lite, and this
model has no inductance in it -- just resistive elements. Still there
is this new, dramatic, and scary behavior. Anyone have theories, answers,
or similar experiences? If I have created a surge amplifier by putting
two surge protectors in series can I get a patent?

No, I'm seriously worried. Any wisdom sincerely appreciated.

Check the incandescent lamp. It might have an intermittent open in
the power cord, a weak filament in the bulb, or the bulb may not be
screwed down tight. Eliminate the obvious causes of the symptoms
before looking for more obscure causes.
