Does anyone out there have the source (or code) for "rn" and "Pnews" running on an MV machine from Data General? One of my friends here would like to have it running on his system and we would like to use it as a server for our "rrn". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Ott Computer-Aided Engr. Hey, is this guy lucky or what.... This article is being posted from a DG MV/10000 machine running native DG/UX 3.11 that I *just* ported nntp/rrn 1.4 to DG/UX. In fact this is the first non-test of this software..... As you can see, the software for routing info (the field Reply to) is not exactly correct, but it's getting there. Please use my .signature for contacting me. The software that I am running is the combination of: DG/UX 3.11 (native to this machine, but you should be able run it under MV/UX... TCP/IP 2.00 NNTP 1.4 from ucbvax.berkeley.edu (if you aren't serving, you only need the "common" and "inews" directories..) RRN from the same site, but in a seperate package. My hacks (err "changes").. most of which are pretty simple. (DGUX is a hybrid combination of System V/BSD 4.2..) so you just have to have the correct defines and include files.. otherwise not hard at all. One major point is that you have to get "/usr/include/dbm.h" if you don't have it. Data General does document it, but they didn't give it with my distribution.. (? DG are you listening ?) I have "ifdef DGUX"'ed all my hacks.. so all's well on my software. Contact me for details. We have the master NNTP server on a Mt. Xinu 4.3BSD vax which has all of the B News and such. It does all the real stuff, and the DG just reads and posts to it. Really simple and good software. (Couple of bugs that I found out appear to be DG/UX's bugs really) So Far So Good.... I plan to try to run it on SUNs and Apollos too.. So far no trouble.. Contact me for details if you want. Samudra E.
