I recently tried to drive the Atari ST-520 sound chip from the interpretive BASIC that came with the system. Having once played with the sound before (I got a tone, turned it back off), I expected no problem. HOWEVER (and you *knew* there was one, didn't you), when I tried to get the second and third voices to work, nothing. Voice 1 works fine, but when I try voice 2 and/or 3 I get no affect. Anyone know if this is a flaw in the original BASIC? Or do I just have a bad Yamaha sound IC? I checked the schematic, all three voices are just "or"ed together with resistors. By the way, the few GAME programs that I have which produce music have no trouble. But maybe they ALL only use voice 1.
