{Does Intel, or someone else, make a microcontroller that executes 808x instructions and comes with many useful on-chip peripherals, such as timers, A/Ds, and such? I'm aware of Intel's various strange micro- controllers, but I'd prefer something that was reasonably PC compatible.} The NEC 7810, 7811 family has the features you asked about. Built into the chip are an 8 channel A/D, 5 - 8 bit I/O ports, full duplex serial port, zero cross detection, 2 - 8 bit interval timers, a multifunction 16 bit timer/event counter, 8085 bus compatibility and more. A neat chip to say the least. There are some tradeoffs to be made depending on how you use the chip and what memory mode you select. ie port lines become address lines. . . fas
