I have an ancient Columbia PC (Model 1600) that has an external hard drive. This was one of the first "clones" on the market back in 1983. The external hard drive was called a "Mercury Megabank", and on the bottom of the case is a sticker that says XEBEC 9710 F. I know nothing about the drive, but the time has come to try and find out some things, such as the number of heads, total sectors, number of tracks, etc. It formats (using a special format program made by Great Lakes Computer Products of Olin Mills, whom I suspect no longer exists) down to around 21 megs of useable space. I called Xebec, but they want to charge money for any questions about their hardware products. I just wanted some basic info from them about this drive, if possible, and I felt that asking for money for (to me anyway) this simple info was asking a little much. Anyhow, does anyone know anything about this drive, or about these "Mercury Megabanks"? Info would be appreciated.
