NeXT has taken quite a bit of flak in some quarters over the price of their machine (while it is a lot of bang for the buck, the average student isn't going to have the funds to get one.) I can't help thinking back a few years to the LAST (approx.) $7000 machine that Jobs was associated with -- the Lisa. Within a year of its introduction the Mac appeared -- and the price of the machines fell to a range that individuals could (with some doing :-) reach. The market that the NeXT machine is aimed at is quite a bit different, of course. But with the competition that is sure to arise, I have a feeling the same sort of thing will happen here (especially when Jobs does decide to release the machine to the general public.)
