Does anybody out there have any experience with the Convergent Workslate laptop (this is a machine that was introduced in late 1983-early 1984 and basically was built around a spreadsheet program. It includes microcassette storage (both voice and data) and telephone capabilities (modem as well as speakerphone)? In particular, the machine at the liquidation prices these days ($100-$200 with business application software) looks quite attractive - for the price of the Sharp Wizard or not much more than a high end HP financial calculator I get a spreadsheet computer (I don't need it for writing - I've got another early laptop, the NEC PC-8201 if I want to type). However, the machine needed/needs an optional I/O box for regular Centronics printer output and R/S 232 serial I/O. I'd really like the RS 232 to dump data to a full sized computer. I assume that since the Workslate can print to it's own proprietary printer and has a built in modem it has most of the hardware already available for I/O. Anyone out there able able to point me in the direction of reproducing the option I/O box? Thanks in advance for any info! Bill Tsang U. of Chicago GSB
